The rain had stopped, but it was cloudy and a bit foggy when we boarded Viking Fjorgyn. Even with a full busload of people, check-in was very quick and easy. We were shown to our cabin, which is identical to the last one. Therefore, I didn’t feel it necessary to take new photographs.
Tim and I wandered over to the Restaurant for our embarkation lunch buffet and then returned to our room to unpack and do a bit of laundry. I figured today would be a good time to take advantage of the ship’s laundry service, so I sent out a few things that I couldn’t wash by hand. Finally, it was time to take a nap. It was nice to take the afternoon off and simply relax before another week of excursions.
When we attended our safety drill later that afternoon, Tim and I learned something new, something that should have been obvious to us. One of the ship’s officers stopped us as we were leaving and pointed out that the whistle that is attached to our life jackets should be clipped to the strap, not hang loose. You don’t want the cord catching on something in an emergency.

After attending our welcome briefing, we joined everyone for dinner in the Restaurant. Just as on Buri, every dinner features daily specials, always-available classics, and a regional specialties tasting menu that enables one to explore new cultures through food. Before each dinner, the Chef also makes his recommendations for each course.
Naturally, Tim and I wondered, “Would the meals on Fjorgyn be as great as those on Buri?” Judging by tonight’s meal, the answer is a definite “yes.” On this cruise, I’m planning to make more of an effort to photograph the menu and my plates and describe my choices in the caption.

When we returned from dinner, I was surprised to find a wrapped package with our clean laundry. After opening it, however, I discovered that most of the items were not ours. The housekeeper apologized and said she would straighten things out. She returned a while later with another package that contained most of our items. Tim received four pairs of his own underwear, but another one still belonged to someone else. The housekeeper was so embarrassed, but I told her not to worry – it was only one pair of underwear, not the end of the world. Still, we chuckled about who might be wearing Tim’s drawers!
Because our ship is docked so close to the Eiffel Tower, Tim and I went to the Sun Deck to watch the sparkling light show at 10:00 pm. It was magical being back in the City of Light once again.
