Day 38 – Sail the South Pacific Ocean

Tim and I managed to get up early this morning to seas that remain calm and weather that continues to be beautiful.

After breakfast, we attended in person Patrick Goodness’ lecture on “Discover the Māori of New Zealand.” The Māori, the indigenous Polynesian people of mainland New Zealand, are one of the only indigenous peoples that named themselves. Once again, Patrick helped us understand the Māori cultural practices, religious beliefs, and tribal rituals, much of which is based upon their respect for each other and their interconnectedness.

Next, Simon and Lisa Thomas continued their efforts to help us create better photographs. Today’s workshop focused on “Creating Beautiful Landscapes,” and I’m trying hard to put into practice what I’m learning. For the first time, they showed photos shared by several guests and offered critiques. For me, that was an effective way to look at an image and see how it could be improved.

The Viking Culinary Team continued to impress us, this time with an American Pie Station. Every American favorite from Boston Cream to Pecan to Key Lime tempted us, but the favorites seemed to be the warm, deep-dish apple and cherry pies. Pastry Chef Tony also created a new sugar creature for today’s event, a bird that another chef named Phoenix.
