Today is our second day at sea before arriving in Sri Lanka tomorrow. There were several lectures and other events that I wanted to attend, but I seemed to be so focused on writing and processing photos that I missed all of them. Luckily, I knew I could watch the lectures tomorrow or the next day on Viking TV.
Viking Sky celebrated International Women’s Day today, and Chef Alastair and his culinary team put on quite the event at lunch in the World Café. I arrived just before noon so I could photograph the display before it was “destroyed” by hungry guests.
Chef Tony created quite the spread, with beautifully decorated cakes, pastries, and sugar sculptures. I had to chuckle to myself, however, since the icons he selected to celebrate women were shoes, lipsticks, and a huge Louis Vuitton purse!

Out on the Aquavit Terrace, Executive Chef Alastair was grilling T-bone steaks, and Hotel General Manager Marcel was serving lobster. They looked delicious.

Because it was so crowded, I decided to wait until after 1:00 pm to eat, hoping it might be a little calmer then. Unfortunately, both Tim and I completely lost track of time and missed what I’m sure would have been a fabulous meal.
We did make it to dinner and met our friends Jacquee and Larry in the World Cafe. For the last month or so, the four of us have been sitting at adjacent tables near the Aquavit Bar, a quiet spot in the World Café. We enjoy each other’s company and have much in common, except for our taste in certain foods. We tend to tease one another on a regular basis, but it’s all good fun.
Tonight was a sad one, however, because Eliot and Didit, two of our favorite waiters, will be leaving in Sri Lanka tomorrow, so we said our goodbyes tonight. We were thrilled to learn that both have been promoted to Head Waiter and may return to Viking Sky after their vacations.
