Day 168 – Sail the Norwegian Sea

When I woke up this morning, the sun was shining, and the seas were relatively calm. What a pleasant change from the last two days. It was a nice day to spend sailing around the southern coast of Iceland.

When Tim and I went to breakfast in the World Café, many of the crew members were on the Aquavit Terrace, rearranging the tables and chairs that had been secured during the previous few days. That was a very good sign, although I can’t imagine that anyone would want to dine outside!

When we returned to our room, another gift was waiting for us – a box of Icelandic chocolate cookies, a bottle of wine, and a lovely note thanking us for continuing our journey with the Viking Sky family.

A Thoughtful Gesture

Today was my laziest one so far. I somehow managed a nap in the morning and another one before dinner. Have I mentioned how sea days are a favorite of mine!

As much as I enjoy the lectures on Viking, I have not attended any of them in recent weeks. I keep telling myself that I will watch them later on Viking TV, but I somehow never do. Information overload? I’m not sure what to blame it on.

Tonight, however, I made it a point to watch one of Russell Lee’s talks. His current one had not yet been uploaded, so Tim and I watched “The Story of Cod – A Cautionary Tale.” I knew very little about the history of cod and how it gave birth to a nation (Iceland), caused three wars, and sparked an economic disaster due to overfishing. Russell is a great storyteller, and this talk was excellent.

Since our room is on the port side, we have enjoyed views of the mountains along the Icelandic coast for much of the day. As I write this, it’s getting more and more cloudy. Hopefully, we will have a good day tomorrow for our excursions in Seydisfjördur.
