Today was a welcome day at sea as we sailed the Java Sea. The Viking Daily had an interesting description of this body of water:
Traversed by merchant ships from the Dutch East India Company throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the waters of the Java Sea witnessed one of the most economically successful trade relationships in history. The cargo holds of Dutch ships carried countless crates of spices from these shores back to The Netherlands, bolstering a nation’s wealth and contributing to the famed Dutch Golden Age. More recently, the Allied naval forces of World War II defended Java from a Japanese attack in these waters.
While Tim attended a lecture that appealed to his interests, I spent the morning trying to upload a blog post. The internet is extremely slow at this point, and what normally might take me less than one-half hour took me almost three hours. To say that I was frustrated is an understatement! I then spent much of the afternoon writing the next one!
I did take a break this evening when Tim and I went to The Chef’s Table for a special menu from Chef Wayan Damawan entitled Indonesia. As luck would have it, when we arrived, we once again saw our two friends Jacquee and Larry. I had promised Head Waiter Carlito that we would not ask to rearrange the dining room again, but that is exactly what Jacquee requested. Of course, Carlito was so accommodating in moving the two tables next to one another.
All four of us agreed that the food was outstanding. This was the menu:

It feels like Jacquee and Larry are old friends, and it was after 9:00 pm when we realized that we were one of only two tables remaining. We did remember to ask for a photo and quickly left the restaurant so the wonderful crew could go home. It was a lovely evening.
