Sailing the Caribbean Sea

Today is the first of two sea days before we transit the Panama Canal on Saturday. Many passengers are participating in the twice-daily Wildlife Watches, joining the Expedition Team on the outer decks to identify birds and other species. Since I’m still avoiding the sun, I have not yet joined them, although it would have been very cool to see flying fish.

We had our first special culinary event at lunch, a Nachos Station, brought to us by Executive Chef Beni. The menu reflected our recent stop in Mexico, and the nachos were delicious, as all the food as been.

The Expedition Team often presents workshops on sea days, and today’s was an “Introduction to Photography.” Although I’ve attended many of these types of sessions, I felt especially out of my element today with so many extra long-range zoom lenses on display. My little phone camera was intimidated by these big boys, but I think it was good enough to give me a decent photo of the amazing evening sky.

The Sky This Evening Was Quite Dramatic

Entertainment on Viking Expedition ships is very different than on Ocean ships. Evening events often feature lectures by members of the Expedition Team, as well as documentary films. Tonight, however, Viking Octantis presented guest entertainer Colleen Williamson, who performed favorite songs from the 60s and 70s, plus hits from films and Broadway musicals. Although Tim stayed behind, I enjoyed the show.
