Tim and I had booked our Mediterranean Explorer and Crossing cruise, a 24-day cruise from Rome to Ft. Lauderdale, plus a pre-cruise extension in Tuscany, more than a year ago. Today, we made our final payment. Our flights are booked, as is our hotel in Florence. The logistics are almost finalized.

Now, I just need to research the various ports and determine what we might like to do ashore. Will we take a Viking excursion, or book one on our own? Time will tell. Viking’s shore excursion bookings open on September 24, so I need to get busy.
Viking notified us last month of our first itinerary change. Due to the winter closure of the port in Monte Carlo, Viking Neptune will now dock in Villefranche-sur-Mer instead. Tim and I are fine with this substitution.
Here is Viking’s revised itinerary, which includes our pre-cruise extension in Tuscany. Although the start of this itinerary is November27, our own itinerary starts on November 21, when we fly to Florence for five nights on our own.
